The Institute of Health Equity is part of several global networks which support, monitor and advance action on health equity. The Institute will support and encourage the international momentum behind the social determinants of health approach and develop these networks and foster action through
- Developing the evidence base, through partnerships on research, evaluation, monitoring and review;
- Development of policy and interventions to tackle health inequalities;
- Building capacity.
The Institute is working with organisations, countries, regions and cities across the world to assess and implement actions to tackle health inequalities. These include:
Health Gaen Growing out of the work of the CSDH, Michael Marmot and Sharon Friel developed the concept of Global Action for Health Equity Network (Health Gaen). Coordinated from ANU there is now an Asian Pacific network of Health Gaen. The UCL Institute will collaborate with Health Gaen to further momentum for a developing global network.
WHO. WHO and the Institute will collaborate on a number of projects and in developing a global network.
EU The Institute is currently a partner on three EU programmes:
PAHO The Institute is advising the pacific WHO region on their publication ‘Health in the Americas’ and advising many of the countries in the region taking forward a social determinants of health approach.
Institute Networks: IHE has also set up two Institute Networks, one for England and one for Europe.
