widening inequality to blame for poor health

"PROFESSOR Lind ("Fears over city's high cancer death rate", Mail, August 27) importantly draws attention to late diagnosis, poor education and poor lifestyle choices as contributing to Hull's lowly position in the league table for cancer survival.

He states that "doctors do what they can, but people need to help themselves" and calls for a change in people's perceptions..."
