There are great opportunities to ensure better bus networks serve the quarter of the poorest households without access to a car. Without these links, these people sometimes have to turn down work, and may become socially isolated. In addition the article provides evidence on how improved public transport and transport management schemes are central in promoting active travel to work and reducing emissions.
