The Final Report of the Commission of the Pan American Health Organisation on Equity and Health Inequalities in the Americas
To address the need to reduce inequalities in health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) created the Commission on Equity and Health Inequalities in the Americas in 2016, to assess the best evidence and propose actions to improve inequalities in health outcomes of the people in the Americas.
PAHO appointed 12 commissioners, including experts on equity, gender, ethnicity and human rights in the region. The commission was chaired by the UCL Institute of Health Equity (IHE) Director, Professor Sir Michael Marmot. Working with the Commission's Cross Cutting Themes (CCTs) group at PAHO The Institute of Health Equity acted as the scientific and technical secretariat for the Commission. Final Report - Just societies: Health equity and dignified lives
The final report, published October 2019, ‘Just societies: Health equity and dignified lives’, contains evidence about the drivers of health inequalities across the Americas, and practical recommendations and evidence from across the Region about how to tackle them.
